Cinnamon Cheese Balls

Are you looking for your perfect breakfast? Then you’ve come to the right  plate. Just try this amazing Ukrainian dish and you’ll ‘taste’ yourself what I am writing about. Hombovtsi (Cinnamon Cheese Balls) is a delicious dessert the recipe of which comes from Carpathian Ukraine.

They are a great solution for your family breakfast. Being incredibly tasty and very easy to cook, they are a good idea to start your day.

These cheese balls are covered by flavorful topping that is a real winner. You just can’t go wrong with cinnamon and ground rusks combined together!

Ingredients:

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 mint twig
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • a pinch of salt
  • 5 tbsp semolina
  • 1-2 tbsp dairy butter
  • 4-6 tbsp ground rusks
  • 250 g (1/2 lb) cottage cheese
  • ground cinnamon – to taste
  • brown sugar – to taste
  • dried fruits – to taste

Cooking

Purée cottage cheese thoroughly. Add sugar, salt, semolina, and eggs. Stir the mass carefully and set it aside for 15-20 minutes.

Shape the balls (4-5 cm in diameter) using the prepared cheese mass. Boil the balls in salted water until they come to water surface.

Transfer the balls to a colander and let the water drain.

Preheat dairy butter in a frying pan. Brown ground rusks there. Transfer the rusks to a plate and add sugar combined with cinnamon. Mix the ingredients.

Roll the cheese balls in the prepared mass. Put them to a serving plate. Decorate the prepared hombovtsi with a fresh mint twig and any dried fruits you wish, it may be dried apples, apricots, cherries, figs, prunes, etc. Here you can combine any variations you prefer most.
