Homemade Plum Nalyvka (Liqueuer)

I am glad to take you through the process of cooking one more awesome Ukrainian drink – fruit nalyvka. The preparation of this liqueur requires only a few ingredients, but the result is amazing – rich drink with a tender texture, amazing flavor, and great aftertaste. This plum nalyvka is a wonderful way to bring some special touch to your family gatherings.

Keep in mind that depending which plums you’re going to use, the liqueur color will range from light yellow to deep purple.

Ingredients:

  • 500 g (1,1 lb) sugar
  • 1/2 l (liter) of horilka
  • 1,5 kg (3,3 lb) of plums

Cooking

Wash plums. Put halved and pitted plums in a big glass bottle. Pour horilka above. Cork the bottle tightly and put it in a cool dark place (14-20°C/57,2-68°F) for 40-50 days.

Then pour the horilka into another bottle. Top the plums with sugar. Cork the bottle with plums and leave it in a dark place for 15 days to let the drink brew.

Combine the horilka with the emerged juice. Filter the mixture through the cheesecloth. Pour the drink into bottles and cork them up.

P.S. It is better to let the liqueur age for 6-8 months. In that case, it will get its authentic delicious taste.
