Sbiten (Honey, Cinnamon, Ginger, and Mint Drink)

From olden times sbiten was served as a warming drink to warm people up on a cold evening. This ancient drink included honey, various spices and kitchen herbs. The drink we are going to cook today also helps to stimulate the metabolism. It imparts a delicious flavor of ginger, cinnamon, mint, and honey.

The advantage of this wonderful drink lies in the flexibility of its recipe. In order to vary the flavor, booth the taste or improve health value of sbiten you can add other ingredients to your liking.

Ingredients:

  • some cloves
  • 150 g (5 oz) honey
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 100 g (3,5 oz) sugar
  • a pinch of cinnamon
  • some dry mint twigs
  • 4-5 black pepper peas

Cooking

Pour a cup of water in a pan. Add honey. Stir the mass and bring it to boil. Cook for 3 minutes. Skim the froth from the top. Set aside for a while.

Combine 1 cup of hot water and sugar separately. Mix carefully until the sugar dissolves completely. Add the mix of water and honey and stir.

Pour 2 liters of water in a separate pan. Add cinnamon, mint twigs, cloves, and black pepper peas. Bring the mixture to boil and then filter it carefully. Add the honey-sugar mixture. Stir properly and let the drink infuse. Serve hot.
