Pork with beetroot – Shpundra

Shpundra is a slice of pork stewed with beetroot and onion in beetroot kvas. Very tasty authentic Ukrainian dish that looks distinctively and boasts a rich taste.

Ingredients:

  • 500 g (17,5 oz) pork
  • 500 g (17,5 oz) beetroot
  • 50-55 g (2 oz) salted pork fat
  • 4 bulb onions
  • 200 ml beetroot kvas
  • 1 tbsp of wheat flour
  • black ground pepper – to taste
  • salt – to taste

Cooking

Cube pork and coat it in flour. Peel and cut beetroot and bulb onion. Cut salted pork fat finely and fry it until the fat melts. Add meat and bulb onion. Fry them until they get a golden color. Place the ingredients in the baking tray, add beetroot, and heat them properly. Pour shpundra with beetroot kvass. Stew it and add at the end of cooking pepper and salt.
