Kvass is a very popular and beloved drink among Ukrainians. Today there are a lot of factory-made versions of this drink however homemade kvass is always the best.
This ancient Ukrianin drink has a one-of-a-kind tender taste with lemon notes.
Follow this recipe and treat your relatives or friends with this soft sweet drink.
- 30 g (1 oz) yeast
- 4 medium lemons
- 6 l (liters) of water
- 500 g (1,1 lb) sugar
- 250 ml non-pasteurized beer
Bring water to boil and dissolve sugar there. Wash lemons and cut them into 4 parts. Remove seeds and add the lemons to the mixture. Stir the drink and set it aside for a while. Preheat the mixture and add non-pasteurized beer and yeast dissolved in small amount of water. Mix everything carefully. Filter the drink and pour it into bottles. Cover the bottles with wood corks.
Place the bottles in a cold place for 72 hours. In 3 days the Ukrainian cossack kvass
will be ready for drinking.
