Cherry Liqueur (Old Recipe)

One of the most popular homemade Ukrainian liqueurs is the cherry one. The recipe for this drink takes its roots from old times. Ukrainians often served the cherry liqueur their guests. Its tender flavor and very pronounced taste make this drink special.

This sweet and tender cherry drink will also become a good solution for family gatherings. You’ll feel warmth of sunny summer and good mood all the time drinking this liqueur. In addition, this drink can be used to cook various cocktails.

Ingredients:

  • 400 ml horilka
  • 250 g (1/2 lb) sugar
  • 125 ml boiled water
  • 1 kg (2,2 lb) cherries
  • a pinch of cinnamon
  • ground nutmeg – to taste

Cooking

Wash cherries thoroughly. Put them into a glass bottle, mash the cherries and leave in a warm place for 72 hours to let the mixture brew.

Then pour horilka above. Add cinnamon and ground nutmeg. Stir to combine. Leave the cherry liqueur in a warm place for 8 days more. When the drink becomes clear, filter it.

Boil syrup using sugar and 125 ml boiled water add it to the filtered cherry liqueur. Mix everything carefully and pour into bottles.
