Cherry liquor

Ukrainian people are good not only in cooking, but also in making special drinks. That’s why you can find numerous recipes of alcoholic and non-intoxicant beverages in our traditional national cuisine.

If you like cherries and soft drinks, you would adore cherry liquor. It is made from cherries and based on traditional Ukrainian alcohol drink called vodka. But don’t be afraid about too high alcoholic content. Thanks to mix of vodka, water, and cherry juice the level of alcoholic content is quite small.

Notice, that this recipe of cherry liquor is not quick. It requires several days for the beverage to stand a long time and gain proper taste.

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg of cherries
  • 500 g of vodka (Ukrainian alcohol drink)
  • 2 g of cinnamon
  • 2 g of nutmeg
  • 250 g of sugar
  • 3 l (liter) of water

Cooking

Mash cherries, put them in a large bottle, add water and place the liquor for fermentation in a dark place. After 4 days add cinnamon, nutmeg, vodka and leave the drink in a fridge for 10 days.

Let’s cook a sugar syrup. Dissolve sugar in 100-125 ml of hot boiled water. Filter liquor and add the prepared sugar syrup. Mix properly and bottle the cherry liquor.
