Ingredients:
- 1 egg
- 3 tbsp jam
- 4 tbsp sugar
- 360 ml milk
- 1/3 tbsp salt
- 570 g (20 oz) flour
- 35 g (1 oz) yeast
- 170 g (6 oz) poppy seeds
- 50 g (8 tbsp) dairy butter
- vegetable oil (for greasing)
- 1 egg (for greasing)
Cooking
Preheat milk and dissolve yeast there. Add sugar and salt. Mix the ingredients carefully and stir in an egg. Sift flour and add 16 tbsp of the flour to the mass. Stir everything and transfer the mass to a table covered with 3 tbsp of flour. Knead the dough carefully for 20-25 minutes until it won’t stick to your hands. Add dairy butter and knead the dough for the second time. Cover the dough with a napkin and put in a warm place for 2-2,5 hours. Wait until the dough rises.
Let’s cook the filling. Put poppy seeds in a bowl and pour boiling water above. Leave the poppy seeds for 10-15 minutes. Pour off the water and repeat the procedure. Then grind poppy seeds twice. Add jam and mix the mass carefully.
Roll the dough into a layer with a thickness of 0.8 – 1 cm. Arrange the topping above the dough. Roll the dough and crimp the edges. Cut the roll into buns, 6-7 cm each. Place the buns on a baking tray greaser with dairy butter. Grease the buns with an egg. Bake the buns at 210°C (410°F) for 25-30 minutes.
