Cherry Kysil and Cream Dessert

Kissel is one of the oldest ritual foods popular among Slavic families. Today it still remains to be a favorite treat for children of all ages. Kissel can be served both cold and hot. It can be liquid or firm like jelly. Today we are going to cook jellied dessert which includes the layers of sweet kissel and tender cream.

If you don’t have fresh cherries, don’t worry! You can use frozen berries and enjoy this treat all year round.

Cook this dessert once and it will become the sweet course number one in your family.

Ingredients:

  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 500 ml milk
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • a pinch of salt
  • 3 tbsp potato starch
  • 500 ml cherry juice
  • 1 kg (2,2 lb) cherries
  • 100 g (3,5 oz)  dairy butter

Cooking

Divide cherry juice into two equal parts and pour it into two bowls. Add potato starch to one bowl and dissolve it in the juice. Put 1/2 cup of sugar into the second bowl. Bring the juice to boil, stirring constantly. Wash cherries and remove the stones. Add the berries to the 2nd bowl and bring the mixture to boil again. Cool the juice.

Combine the remaining sugar with eggs, flour, and salt. Pour chilled milk above. Mix the ingredients and bring the mixture to boil over low heat. Remove from the heat, add dairy butter to the mixture and cool it.

Arrange the prepared cream and kissel in layers. Allow the dessert to cool and then place it in a fridge for at least 2 hours.
