Salad “Herring under Fur Coat”

This beet salad with herring is a traditional dish on a fest table, especially on New Year’s. Herring in combination with onion give a special zest to the salad.

Ingredients:

  • 300 g of filleted herring / 1-2 herrings
  • 300 g of potatoes
  • 300 g of carrots
  • 300 g of beetroots
  • 150 g of bulb onion
  • mayonnaise

Cooking

Boil potatoes, carrots and beetroots. Cool and peel the vegetables. Chop bulb onions. If you have bitter onion, then pour it with boiling water and leave for 10 minutes. After pour out water and rinse the onion under running water. Cut the herring fillets into small pieces.

Grate the prepared potato, carrot and beetroot. Place the vegetables in different bowls and mix with mayonnaise. Do not put too much mayonnaise. If you overdo it – the salad may be excessively fat. The first layer – is herring. Place it on a plate and add onion. The next layer – is the potato mass, then the grated carrot and the last layer is the beetroot mass. Smooth out all the layers by the help of a spoon.

Tip! You can decorate the salad with parsley, olive and tomato.
