Varenyky with Apples

We are glad to share one more delicious recipe of varenyky with you. As you already know, this dish is one of the most favorite and popular ones in Ukraine. There are dozens of recipes for various fillings beginning with meat and finishing with fruit ones. Today we are going to cook varenyky stuffed with apples. This recipe is relatively easy and time-saving. Plus, we will not need many ingredients to cook this dish. So, if you want to vary your everyday menu with some Ukrainian dishes, try this one. I assure you that you will not be disappointed.


  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 3 cups wheat flour
  • 1 kg (2,2 lb) apples
  • 1 tsp salt (for boiling)
  • 1/2 tsp salt (for dough)
  • sour cream (for serving)


Rinse, peel and chop apples finely. Top them with sugar, stir the mass, and let it stand for 15 minutes.

Combine eggs, salt, water, and flour. Mix the ingredients carefully and knead a soft dough.

Place the dough on a thoroughly floured surface. Roll it into a layer with 1,5 mm thickness. Then, cut the dough into squares (5×5 cm each). Place the prepared filling in the center of each square. Fold the dough over and seal the edges very carefully. Repeat the procedure until you use all the ingredients.

Pour 3 cups of water in a pan. Bring the water to a boil and add 1 tbsp of salt. Deep the varenyky into the water and cook until they come to the surface.

Gently remove the prepared varenyky from the pan with a slotted spoon and transfer them to a plate. Serve the varenyky with sour cream, or eat them as is.
