Ukrainian small bread – Pampushka with garlic

Pampushka – a sort of fritter that is cooked with garlic and is rather piquant to taste. This type of bakery is usually served with Ukrainian borsch (beetroot soup).

Ingredients:

  • 400 g (14 oz) wheat flour
  • 1 tbsp of sugar
  • 12 g of yeast (2 dessert spoons)
  • 1/2  tbsp of sunflower oil
  • 3/4 glass (150 ml) of water
  • salt – to taste

Sauce

  • 30 g (1 oz) garlic
  • 1 tbsp of sunflower oil
  • 1/2 glass (125 ml) of kvas/water

Cooking

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add 100 g (3,4 oz) of flour, sugar, and salt. Knead the dough and leave it in a warm place until it ferments. Then stir in 300 g (10,5 oz) of flour and add sunflower oil to the dough. Knead the dough thoroughly and let it rise.

Shape balls. The weight of each ball should not be more than 25 g-30 g (1 oz). Wait till the dough rises. Bake pampushky in the oven.

Sauce

Peel and squeeze garlic. Add sunflower oil and kvass or water.

Pour pampushka with sauce before serving.
